We teach Motability Scheme customers and disabled learners across Doncaster, in automatic and adapted dual controlled cars, at a pace that suits you. Ring us and we will explain how lessons work for you before you commit.
Our Motability driving lessons suit Motability Scheme customers, learners who receive the higher rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Child Disability Payment, and disabled drivers returning to driving after a break. If you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of PIP, you can start learning to drive a car at 16.
The Motability Scheme lets eligible disabled people use the higher rate mobility part of their allowance to lease a new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, scooter or powered wheelchair. You need at least twelve months left on your award to apply.
You can practise in your own Motability Scheme vehicle, subject to the insurance rules on named provisional licence holders and additional drivers. If your car has driving adaptations, lessons in your own vehicle mean you learn with the controls you will use every day.
The Motability Foundation offers a driving lessons grant that may fund up to 40 hours of driving lessons. To qualify you must be a disabled Motability Scheme customer, hold a provisional driving licence and receive a qualifying means-tested benefit, such as Universal Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support. You must have passed your theory test before you apply, and lessons should be completed within 12 months of the grant being approved.
Grant-funded lessons are arranged through the AA Driving School. If your Scheme car has driving adaptations funded by the Foundation, the grant can also cover familiarisation lessons. If you don't qualify for the grant, or would rather learn with a local driving instructor in Doncaster, we can teach you on a pay as you go basis and plan an efficient course to help with the cost of driving lessons.
If you need adaptations to drive, a Driving Mobility assessment centre can recommend the right controls for your adapted vehicle before you start lessons. Once you know what you need, we will match you with an instructor and a car that suits. Every learner is different, and lessons for disabled drivers run at whatever pace works for you.
Every Motability learner is quoted individually, because the right car and lesson length depend on your needs. Call 07402 034084 for a quote.
