Passed a while ago and lost the habit? Our refresher driving lessons pick up exactly where your confidence is, whether that means a quiet car park or straight out onto Bawtry Road. Lessons start from £60 for 1.5 hours, with no test at the end and no pressure.
Refresher driving lessons are for qualified drivers who want to rebuild their confidence behind the wheel. That includes people returning to driving after a long break, drivers who have just bought their first car and anyone who passed their test but never really drove afterwards. If a collision has knocked your confidence, see our lessons for nervous drivers.
Your first refresher lesson starts with a conversation about what you want to be able to do: the school run, the commute into Doncaster, a motorway trip or simply parking without stress. Your instructor then watches you drive somewhere quiet and builds from there. Lessons focus on the situations that worry you most, whether that is busy roundabouts, joining the M18 or reversing into a bay.
Whatever your reason, refresher lessons are tailored to you. Your driving instructor will focus on the situations that matter to your everyday driving.
The Highway Code has changed a lot in recent years. The 2022 update introduced a hierarchy of road users and gave pedestrians waiting to cross a junction priority over turning traffic. Your instructor will run through the changes that affect everyday driving so you are up to date.
Doncaster sits next to the M18 and the A1(M), which makes it a good place to rebuild motorway confidence. Your instructor will start with dual carriageways, then practise joining, overtaking, lane discipline and leaving the motorway safely, all in a dual controlled car. See our motorway lessons and Pass Plus page for more.
Refresher lessons are available in manual and automatic dual controlled cars. Many returning drivers move to an automatic after a break, and an automatic refresher course is a good way to get used to it with an instructor beside you.
Every Alma instructor is DBS checked and local to Doncaster, so you learn with someone who knows the area, and most are DVSA approved driving instructors (ADIs). We are a family run driving school in Doncaster, and our local driving instructors cover the town and surrounding areas of South Yorkshire. You can choose a male or female instructor, and if you want your confidence back quickly, lessons can be booked close together.
“Thank you Bogdan for all your patience and guidance throughout all my driving sessions. I could not have done it without your help and support.”

“Had some lessons with Nick from Alma, I started out with low to no confidence and thanks to him it’s now sky rocketed and I’m able to drive without shaking and almost throwing up. He’s very relaxed and sends out good vibes as he explains what needs to be done, where you went wrong and where you went right. …”
“Massive thanks to Alma Driving School and Sergiu! His insightful and well-structured lessons gave me the confidence to pass on my first attempt. He made everything easy to understand and adapted the sessions to my experience. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great driving school!”
