Refresher driving lessons in Auckley are for people who already hold a full licence but want help getting back on the road. That might be after years without a car, after a move to the new homes around Hayfield Lane, or after an incident that knocked your confidence.
You are not taking a test, so there is no pass or fail. The aim is that you finish feeling safe and capable on the roads you actually use. Our main refresher driving lessons page has more on how these sessions work.
If you last drove here more than ten years ago, the road layout may look quite different. The first phase of the Great Yorkshire Way, from Junction 3 of the M18 to Parrots Corner, opened in February 2016. The second phase then carried the A6182 on from the A638 Bawtry Road to a new roundabout on Hurst Lane, with a new roundabout at Parrots Corner too.
Hurst Lane itself has also changed. New College Doncaster opened there in 2017 next to The Hayfield School. That has made term-time mornings and afternoons much busier than many returning drivers remember. Meanwhile the old airport traffic has gone, as Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been closed to passenger flights since 2022 while plans to reopen it continue.
We build those changes into your sessions: first the new roundabouts at quieter times, then the same junctions when traffic is heavier.
Your instructor will start with a short chat about how long you have been away from the wheel and what worries you, plus where you need to drive, whether that is the school run to Hayfield Lane Primary School or a commute into Doncaster. Then you drive, starting somewhere calm, while the instructor watches and talks you through anything that has slipped.
Rules have changed too. The Highway Code was updated in January 2022 with a hierarchy of road users, and drivers turning into a road should now give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross. It is worth reading the current Highway Code on GOV.UK before your lesson so we can talk through anything that surprises you.
Auckley has a direct motorway link, with the Great Yorkshire Way running straight to Junction 3 of the M18. For refresher pupils who avoid motorways, that makes a gradual approach easy: a session on the link road first, then a short stretch of the M18 to Junction 4 and back.
On the motorway we cover joining from the slip road and keeping a safe gap. We also work on lane discipline and on leaving at the right junction. Our motorway lessons and Pass Plus page explains the longer options.

Our lessons are taught in our dual controlled cars, which means your instructor can step in if needed. Once your confidence is back, we can talk about the differences you will notice in your own car, such as size, gearbox and visibility.
Some drivers only need one or two sessions to feel comfortable again, while others prefer a longer course. Your instructor will give an honest view after the first drive, and you are never committed to more than you want.
Yes. If you need to commute, we can practise the actual drive, whether that is along the Great Yorkshire Way and the M18 or through Branton and Cantley into Doncaster. Learning the real route usually helps confidence the most.
Very often. UK roundabouts can feel unfamiliar at first, and so can road markings and speed limits in miles per hour. Check on GOV.UK whether your foreign licence can be used or exchanged in the UK, then a few sessions on Auckley's roads will help you adjust.
