Motability driving lessons in Auckley are for disabled learners and Motability Scheme customers who would like to learn from home. Our automatic, dual controlled cars come to your door, and each lesson is paced around what your body and energy allow on the day.
Disabled learners and Motability Scheme customers learn with us in cars with an automatic gearbox. That takes the clutch pedal and gear lever out of the picture, which leaves more attention free for steering and observation. Each car also has dual controls, giving your instructor a brake of their own.
When you first ring 07402 034084, mention any adaptation you rely on (a steering ball or push-pull hand controls, for example). We will be straight with you about what our cars can offer. If an assessment would help first, we will explain where to get one before anything is booked.
There is no meeting point to reach, because lessons begin outside your own house. Learners in Hayfield Green and the newer streets off Hayfield Lane can step straight into the car, and the mostly flat roads around the village make a gentle place to begin.
Seventeen is the usual minimum age for driving a car. Learners awarded the enhanced mobility rate of Personal Independence Payment, or with a claim for it in progress, can start a year sooner, at 16. GOV.UK handles the provisional licence application, which can be sent at 15 years and 9 months of age.
For a sixth form age learner heading to New College Doncaster on Hurst Lane, that extra year can make a real difference to independence. If reading or concentration is affected by your condition, the theory test booking service on GOV.UK lets you ask for support such as extra time.
Through its driving lessons grant, the Motability Foundation can fund as many as 40 hours of tuition. The criteria are strict. Applicants must already be Motability Scheme customers and must hold a theory test pass, and there are extra conditions that include getting a means-tested benefit.
Grant-funded tuition is organised by the Foundation, so those lessons are not ones Alma provides. Ring the Foundation on 0800 500 3186 to find out where you stand, or read its driving lessons grant page.
Learners who fall outside the criteria, or who would rather not wait, can book with Alma privately at our normal rates, which are listed on the prices page.
Some learners benefit from a specialist opinion on which adaptations or seating position would suit them. Driving Mobility, a national charity, assesses people for car driving and for vehicle adaptations. Its Doncaster outreach centre takes appointments that are booked through the Leeds centre, and the Driving Mobility website explains the process.
If you already have an assessment report, we would find it useful to read before your first lesson. It helps your instructor plan your seating position and mirror setup, along with the pace of early sessions.
Early sessions stay on the quiet streets near your home while the pedals and steering start to feel natural. Main Street comes later, and there the bus stops and parked cars need planning. After that comes the level crossing on Gate House Lane, which teaches calm waiting. When you are ready, the Great Yorkshire Way gives practice joining faster traffic and choosing lanes at roundabouts.
Shorter lessons with more breaks are fine if fatigue or pain is an issue. See our main Motability driving lessons page, our automatic driving lessons in Auckley, or Motability lessons in Cantley for learners just up the B1396. The Auckley driving lessons page covers pick-up points and everything else.

They are automatics with dual controls. Adaptations vary a lot from person to person, so describe yours when you get in touch and we will say honestly if our cars can accommodate it. Driving Mobility can carry out a formal assessment if you are unsure what you need.
No. Grant-funded tuition is organised by the Motability Foundation, so call them on 0800 500 3186 about eligibility. Anyone outside the grant criteria, or keen to start straight away, can still learn with Alma by booking privately.
Not if you receive the enhanced mobility rate of PIP or have a claim for it under way. In that case you can drive a car at 16. A provisional licence comes first, and a theory pass is needed before any practical test date.
