Holding a full licence and feeling confident behind the wheel are two different things. Our refresher lessons in Edlington are for drivers who want to get back on the road calmly. We start from home and work towards whatever journeys matter most to you.
Plenty of people pass their test, then rely on buses or a partner's driving for a long time. If that sounds familiar, the first refresher session is about rediscovering the car. We start on quieter roads around Howbeck Drive, then move to the older avenues of New Edlington once the controls feel familiar again.
Expect your instructor to ask what you want to achieve. It might be the school run to Hill Top Academy, a commute into Doncaster, or simply the confidence to drive to the shops on Edlington Lane without dreading it.
Returning drivers often find that the basics come back quickly, while judgement takes a little longer. The gaps between parked cars on Clark Avenue or Granby Road are a good test. Knowing when to wait and when to go is the kind of decision that feels rusty after a long break, and a few lessons of practice usually sharpen it up again.
A collision or a near miss can put anyone off driving, and so can a frightening moment on a fast road. We go at your pace and avoid the situations that worry you until you are ready. You can ask for a female instructor or a male instructor, whichever you would feel more comfortable with.
Loredana, one of Alma's co-founders, is especially good with drivers who have lost their confidence. Our cars have dual controls, which many returning drivers find reassuring in the early sessions.
Moving to DN12 from elsewhere means learning a new set of roads. Edlington Lane, the B6376, is the main route through town and heads north to Warmsworth, where the A630 runs through Balby towards Doncaster. Broomhouse Lane gives you a second way into Balby, and the B6376 carries on south-west towards Braithwell and Maltby.
Both the B6376 Edlington Lane and the A630 Warmsworth Road in Balby are listed as mobile speed camera sites, so steady speed control is worth refreshing early on. Junction 36 of the A1(M) lies between Warmsworth and Balby and connects you to the wider motorway network.
Switching from a manual to an automatic, or moving to a much bigger car, can make even an experienced driver feel unsure. We can teach you in one of our automatic cars so you get used to creep and brake control. The different feel of an automatic gearbox soon becomes natural. See automatic driving lessons in Edlington for more on how that works.
It is also worth looking at the current Highway Code. The 2022 update changed priorities at junctions in favour of people on foot and on bikes, and many drivers who passed earlier have never read the new rules.
Some refresher pupils want help with one particular trip, such as the drive into Doncaster town centre or the route to a new workplace. Tell us the trip you have in mind and we will build lessons around it, driving it together until it feels ordinary.
If the A1(M) or the M18 is your main worry, we can work up to it gradually, beginning with faster stretches of the A630 before joining the motorway at Junction 36. Our motorway lessons page explains more.

Yes, many drivers who learned overseas book a few lessons to get used to UK roads and roundabouts. Check GOV.UK for the rules on using a foreign licence in the UK, then call us to arrange your first session.
Lesson lengths are listed on our prices page. Many returning drivers like a longer first session, so there is time to talk about their goals and then drive without feeling rushed. After that, you can choose whatever length suits your timetable.
