Holding a full licence is one thing. Feeling ready to drive through Dunscroft on your own after years away is another. Refresher lessons put you back in the driver's seat of a dual controlled car with an instructor beside you, starting wherever your confidence is today.
Refresher lessons are for anyone with a full licence who wants some help before driving alone again. Learners in Dunscroft usually fall into one of these groups:
There is no test at the end. You decide when you have had enough lessons, and your instructor will tell you honestly how your driving looks along the way. Some people book a single session to check their habits. Others prefer a short run of lessons spread over a few weeks.
Unity Way is the most noticeable recent change to the roads around Dunscroft. The 2.4 km link road opened in December 2020, running from Waggons Way in Stainforth, beside the former Hatfield Colliery, to Junction 5 of the M18. Junctions have been built along it for future development on the Unity site, which covers 250 hectares of land near Stainforth and Hatfield.
If your last regular drive here was before 2020, Unity Way will be new. A refresher lesson lets you try it with an instructor, including the approach to Junction 5. The colliery itself closed in 2015, and its listed headstocks still stand beside the site as a landmark you can see from the M18.
Most refresher drivers start closer to home. A gentle first drive might follow Broadway from Doncaster Road up to Station Road, then past the Abbey Shopping Centre and over the railway bridge by the station. That short loop covers bus stops, parked cars, pedestrians near shops and a short incline, so your instructor quickly sees what has come back and what needs work.
Common rusty areas include mirror checks before signalling and judging when to emerge from side roads like Cherry Tree Drive. Speed awareness on Doncaster Road, the A18 at the southern edge of the village, is another.
Plenty of returning drivers find the motorway the most daunting part. From Dunscroft, Unity Way leads straight to Junction 5 of the M18, where the M180 also begins beside Doncaster North services. Your instructor can talk you through the slip road and the merge, then work on lane discipline before leaving at the next junction.

If you would like to, yes. Unity Way is a good step between village roads and the motorway, and Junction 5 of the M18 is at its northern end. We only go on the motorway when you feel ready.
