Disabled learners and Motability customers in Kirk Sandall can learn to drive with Alma in a dual controlled automatic. We plan each course around your condition and energy levels, collect you from home or the station, and start on the calm garden village streets before moving on.
The grant can fund up to 40 hours of driving lessons. It is open to Scheme customers who also satisfy further conditions, including being on a means-tested benefit, and who have already got through the theory test. The Foundation books and organises the grant-funded lessons itself, so your first conversation should be with them on 0800 500 3186.
You can read the full criteria on the Motability Foundation driving lessons page. If it turns out you do not qualify, or the timescale does not suit you, nothing stops you paying for lessons with Alma directly and getting started.
Without a clutch, there is one pedal fewer to operate and no gear lever to reach for while steering. For many disabled learners that reduces fatigue and lets them focus on reading the road. Our cars are dual controlled too, so your instructor can brake if needed. If you rely on particular adaptations, please describe them on the phone so we can be honest about what our cars can and cannot do.

Most pupils are collected from their front door. Kirk Sandall station is another good option, because its platforms are reached by a long ramp from the entrance on Sandall Lane, so there are no steps to manage. College students coming back from Doncaster or Hull can step off the train and straight into a lesson.
We can also meet you at work on the industrial estate off Century Close, or outside your child's school on Magnolia Close once the morning rush has cleared.
The residential roads built around the old glassworks are quieter than the main road, which gives you room to get used to the car without pressure. Lynton Drive and Trent Gardens are typical starting points. Once you are settled, we move on to Doncaster Road with its buses and its bridge over the railway. After that come Long Sandall and the area around the test centre at Shaw Wood, where the roundabouts at Clay Lane and Shaw Lane ask for early lane choice.
Learners in the next village can book Motability driving lessons in Barnby Dun, and those south of Edenthorpe can choose Motability driving lessons in Armthorpe. For our full range of lessons, see the Kirk Sandall driving lessons page.

No. The Motability Foundation organises grant-funded lessons itself, so check with them first on 0800 500 3186. If you are not eligible, or would rather begin straight away, you can book private lessons with us in an automatic car.
Not everyone does. It is worth booking one if you are unsure which adaptations would help, or whether your condition affects your driving. Driving Mobility arranges Doncaster outreach assessments through its Leeds centre, and the report can help your instructor plan lessons.
Yes. Tell us how long you can comfortably drive and we will plan lesson lengths to match. Some learners prefer shorter, more frequent sessions. Our prices page shows the options available.
