Adwick-le-Street is one of the oldest villages on Doncaster's northern edge, with a 12th-century church at its heart and the A1(M) on its doorstep. We pick up across the village and teach on the quiet lanes and faster A-roads you will use every day once you pass.
Adwick-le-Street sits about four miles north-west of Doncaster city centre in the DN6 postcode district. It shares the Adwick le Street and Carcroft ward with Woodlands, Highfields, Carcroft and Skellow. The old village is reached from the Great North Road along Doncaster Lane. Toll Bar and Bentley lie to the south-east along Adwick Lane. The le Street part of the name refers to Ermine Street, the Roman road that locals call the Roman Ridge.
We collect learners from home, work, school or college. Popular pick-up points include Adwick station on Church Lane, which has a large free car park, and Adwick Primary School on Windmill Balk Lane for parents who want a lesson straight after drop-off. Sixth form students at Outwood Academy Adwick can be met at the end of the college day. If you work at the Red House industrial park, where DFS has its head office and B&Q runs a distribution centre, we can meet you as your shift ends.
Nobody is rushed up this list. Most learners spend their first few lessons in the village and only move on when moving off and stopping feel automatic and simple junctions no longer worry them.
The practical test centre is at Heather Court on Shaw Wood Business Park, DN2 5YL, on the Armthorpe side of the city. In a straight line it is a little over four miles from Adwick station, and by road you cross Doncaster to reach it. Many lessons heading that way leave along Adwick Lane, join the A19 at Toll Bar and follow it through Bentley towards North Bridge, which means plenty of bus stops and crossings to watch for.
The other way in is Doncaster Lane to the Highwayman Roundabout and down the A638 through Scawthorpe onto York Road. We use both, so the drive on test day never feels new. In the weeks before your test, lessons spend more time on roads like the ones you will meet on test, with the kind of junctions and roundabouts found around the test centre.
Our Doncaster driving test guide explains the eyesight check, the show me tell me questions, the independent driving section and the reversing exercise in more detail.
You can ask for a female driving instructor or a male driving instructor when you call. Loredana, one of our co-founders, spends a lot of her time with nervous learners and drivers who have lost confidence. Diana teaches automatic only and is used to fitting lessons around busy family timetables. Among the men, Bogdan teaches manual. Sergiu is known for explaining why a mistake happened.
Our instructors are all DBS checked and most are DVSA approved driving instructors (ADIs). The cars have dual controls and are fully insured, so your instructor can step in at any moment while you learn.
You need a provisional licence before you drive. You can apply for a provisional licence on GOV.UK from 15 years and 9 months, and drive from 17. Start revising for the theory test early, because you must pass it before you can book the practical test. Our theory test guide covers the hazard perception clips as well as the multiple-choice questions.
Lesson costs and block booking packages are listed on our prices page, and the guide to driving lesson prices in Doncaster explains what to compare. Still weighing up the gearbox? Our guide to choosing a manual or automatic licence helps, and pupils' own comments are on our reviews page.
