Think of a mock test as a dress rehearsal. Your instructor drops the coaching and gives directions only, marking you exactly as an examiner would. From Adwick-le-Street that means a drive across the city towards the Armthorpe side, then a debrief that shows how ready you really are.
Allow roughly two hours from pick-up to the end of the debrief. Before you set off, you read a number plate from 20 metres away and answer one tell me question about the car. A show me question comes later while you are moving, perhaps on Doncaster Lane, where you might be asked to demonstrate the rear demister or the windscreen washers safely.
Your instructor stays quiet apart from directions, which can feel odd after weeks of coaching. That silence is the point. You get to find out what you do when nobody is reminding you about mirrors or speed. Our main mock driving test page has more on the format.
The real test starts and ends at Heather Court on Shaw Wood Business Park, DN2 5YL. A mock from Adwick usually begins at your pick-up. Your instructor might route you out along Adwick Lane to Toll Bar and the A19 through Bentley, or down Doncaster Lane to the Highwayman Roundabout and the A638. Both bring plenty of crossings and roundabouts before you reach the city.
Around 20 minutes of the drive is independent, following a sat nav or road signs without turn-by-turn prompts. The DVSA does not publish test routes, so we finish on roads like the ones you will meet on test, with the kind of junctions found near the test centre.
There may also be an emergency stop, because some real tests include one.
Marks go onto the same DVSA sheet that examiners use. Minor driving faults are tallied up. Anything serious or dangerous is recorded too. To pass the real test you need no more than 15 driving faults and zero serious or dangerous ones, so the sheet shows you clearly how close you are.
Afterwards we park up somewhere quiet, often back in the village, and go through it line by line. The written debrief is yours to keep. It sets out what went well and what cost you, along with the skills to work on before the real thing.
Most learners have a lesson right before the test that starts from home and ends in the test centre car park. If you would like your instructor in the back seat during the test, just ask, because examiners allow it. Learners across the A638 can read about mock driving tests in Woodlands, and the Adwick-le-Street area page has the rest.

Leave your name and number and we'll ring you back within the day to talk through lessons in Adwick-le-Street and the times that suit you.
As strictly as we can manage. We use the DVSA marking sheet and record faults the way an examiner would, without rounding down to make you feel better. An honest result now is far more useful than a surprise on test day.
Nobody outside the DVSA knows the exact routes, because they are not published. Your mock instead covers roads like the ones you will meet on test, with the same mix of roundabouts and junctions found near the Shaw Wood centre.
Two to four weeks before the test usually works well, because it leaves time to fix whatever the mock picks up. Some people book a second one a few days before the test to confirm the changes have stuck.
Then it has done its job. The debrief will show which faults cost you, and your instructor will plan the remaining lessons around them. Some learners decide to move their test date, and that choice is always yours.
It can. The station on Church Lane is a handy meeting point with plenty of parking, and starting there puts you close to Adwick Lane and Doncaster Lane, the two usual ways out towards the city. Tell us your train time when you book the mock.
