An intensive course packs your driving into days instead of months. For Stainforth learners it begins with a free assessment drive from home. After that we set the course length, book your practical test and plan the hours around the roads between DN7 and the test centre.
The general details are on our intensive driving courses page. Here we focus on how a course run from Stainforth uses the roads around it.
The first hour warms you up close to home. Residential roads around the New Park Estate and Holme Gardens are good for settling your nerves with some moving off and reversing. Then come junction runs on Church Road and Silver Street. Buses and parked cars there keep your observation sharp.
Later sessions head further out. Kirton Lane takes you into Thorne. Around South Parade and Horse Fair Green you meet a small town centre with pedestrians and parked cars to plan around. Coming back, you might pick up Station Road through Dunscroft and Broadway, then the A18 through Dunsville and Edenthorpe.
Spreading the day like this avoids long drives that teach you nothing new. Every leg of the route has a purpose, such as lane discipline on the A18 or a reversing exercise in a quiet street.
In the last days of the course most of your time goes on the Armthorpe side of Doncaster, driving the kind of roads found near Shaw Wood Business Park. You practise independent driving by following a sat nav and by following road signs, because the real test can use either.
Manoeuvres get regular slots as well. By the final day you should be comfortable with every reversing exercise on the test, from parallel parking to pulling up on the right and reversing two car lengths, so your attention stays free for observation.
We usually finish with a full mock driving test in Stainforth so you know how you would score on the DVSA marking sheet before the day itself. You can also ask your instructor to sit in the back during your real test.
It does take commitment. You need to be free for several hours a day, and a long day behind the wheel is tiring. If driving makes you anxious, a slower start with nervous driver lessons in Stainforth may suit you better.
Many intensive pupils live just outside Stainforth. Our intensive driving courses in Thorne and intensive driving courses in Hatfield use many of the same roads, so a friend in a neighbouring town can follow a similar plan. For everything else about learning here, see driving lessons in Stainforth.

Leave your name and number and we'll ring you back within the day to talk through lessons in Stainforth and the times that suit you.
That depends on your assessment drive. A complete beginner needs more hours than someone who has driven before, and the length of the course is set only after we have seen you drive. The practical test is booked as part of the course, so the date also depends on test availability at the Doncaster centre.
You can have your assessment drive and start lessons, but you must pass the theory test before you can sit the practical test. Book your theory test at Fraser House in Doncaster as early as possible so it does not hold up the rest of your course. A pass lasts two years.
Yes. We can pick you up from home, work, school or college, and drop you back at a different place if that helps. Just let us know your plans for each day when we arrange the course, so the instructor can fit the route around them.
