A mock test from Doncaster town centre is the closest thing to the real test without booking it. Your instructor picks you up in the centre, plays the role of the examiner and marks your drive on the DVSA sheet, then talks you through every fault.
Set aside roughly two hours. Around 40 minutes of that is the drive itself, and the remainder is the debrief. The structure mirrors the DVSA practical test:
Expect very little conversation. Your instructor gives directions and nothing else, the way an examiner behaves on the day. That silence can feel strange after months of chat and coaching, which is one of the best reasons to try it first.
The Doncaster test centre is on Shaw Wood Way, roughly three miles north-east of the city centre. Rather than start the mock right outside, we usually begin from your pick-up in the centre and drive out through Wheatley along Church Way and Wheatley Hall Road, or along Thorne Road through Town Moor and Wheatley Hills.
That gives you a realistic mix: the town traffic you know well, then faster roads, roundabouts and the kind of junctions you will meet around the test centre. DVSA does not publish test routes, so we cover a variety of roads rather than learning one route by heart.
For the independent section of the mock, your instructor might ask you to follow signs for a destination such as the racecourse or the A18, or set a sat nav and let you follow it. Direction signs on the bigger roads around the centre, such as Trafford Way, often come with lane markings, so reading them early is an important skill.
If you take a wrong turn, that is fine. On the real test, going the wrong way is not a fault in itself, as long as you drive safely. What counts is how you react.
After the drive, your instructor goes through the DVSA marking sheet with you. You will see which faults were driving faults, which would have been serious faults, and why. To pass the real thing you need no serious or dangerous faults and no more than 15 driving faults.
You also get a written debrief to keep. Many learners take it into their next few lessons so they can work on the exact points that came up, whether that is mirror checks on Waterdale or speed on the approach to a roundabout.
A mock test is most useful if your practical test is in the next few weeks, or if you have taken a test before and not passed. It tells you if you are ready, and if you are not, it shows you exactly what to fix.

Plan for roughly two hours in total. The drive lasts about as long as the real test, around 40 minutes. The rest of the time goes on the marking sheet and a chat about what to work on next.
Yes. Your instructor marks your drive on the DVSA marking sheet, recording driving faults, serious faults and dangerous faults in the same way an examiner would. You then get a written debrief to keep.
DVSA does not publish test routes, and examiners can use a range of roads. The mock drives the kind of roads and junctions you will meet around the test centre, so you are ready for whatever comes up.
They are, as long as you request it. Your instructor rides in the back seat and stays silent. Plenty of learners like having a familiar face there, and it helps your instructor explain the result afterwards because they saw every fault for themselves.
