A mock test shows you, before the real thing, how close you are to test standard. Your instructor runs it exactly like a DVSA test and marks every fault, then gives you a written report to keep, so you know what to work on in the time you have left.
Your instructor collects you in Denaby Main and begins with the eyesight check, where you read a number plate at 20 metres. Next comes a tell me question about how you would check something on the car.
The driving section lasts about 40 minutes. Partway through, you are asked a show me question to answer while moving. Around 20 minutes is independent driving, following a sat nav or traffic signs without step-by-step directions from your instructor.
You will do one reversing exercise. It might be parallel parking or bay parking. The remaining option is to pull up on the right and reverse roughly two car lengths before rejoining the traffic. You may also be asked to do an emergency stop.
The debrief takes the session to around two hours in total.
Because DVSA keeps test routes to itself, we cannot copy yours. Instead we give you the same kind of challenge. A mock from Denaby Main often heads along the A6023 Doncaster Road, takes in the Bambury Bridge roundabout, then follows Low Road through Conisbrough to the A630. From there it continues through Warmsworth and the junction 36 interchange into Balby and across to the Armthorpe side of Doncaster, where the junctions resemble those around the test centre.
Independent driving might take you somewhere you have not been before, which is the point. It tests how you read the road when everything is unfamiliar.
Your instructor uses the DVSA marking sheet. Small errors are recorded as driving faults. Anything potentially dangerous counts as a serious fault, and a dangerous fault means there was actual danger. To pass a real test you can have up to 15 driving faults, but even one serious or dangerous fault means a fail.
On local roads, the faults to look out for include late planning for buses pulling out on Doncaster Road or approaching the Bambury Bridge roundabout in the wrong lane. Spotting these now gives you time to fix them.
After the drive you go through the marking sheet together. You keep a written debrief that explains each fault and how to put it right. Bring it to your remaining lessons and use it to guide any extra practice.
If the mock shows you need more time, your instructor will say so honestly. Moving a test date is better than going in unprepared.
Treat it as the real thing. Arrive rested, wear the shoes you plan to drive in on test day and resist asking your instructor for help during the drive. The closer the mock feels to a real test, the more useful its results will be.
Some pupils book two mocks, one a few weeks out and another nearer the date, to check that the faults from the first have gone. Your written debrief is also worth sharing with anyone who takes you out for private practice, so they know what to watch for.

Yes. It uses the DVSA marking sheet and follows the same structure, running from the eyesight check and show me tell me questions through to independent driving and a reversing exercise. The route is our own, as DVSA does not publish its test routes.
Yes, if you ask. Your instructor can sit in the back during your practical test, which means they can give you useful feedback afterwards whatever the result.
That is useful information. Your written debrief shows exactly what to work on, and your instructor will suggest how much more practice might help before the real test.
Around two to three weeks before your practical test works well for most learners. It leaves time to work on anything the mock highlights while the format is still fresh.
