An intensive course packs your lessons into days or weeks instead of months. For Carcroft learners it begins with a free assessment drive from home, after which we set the course length, give you a price and book your practical test as part of the course.
Intensive courses work for people who can commit several hours a day for a short spell. Around Carcroft that tends to mean:
It suits you less if you find long sessions hard to concentrate through, or if you cannot drive most days. Regular weekly lessons may be the better fit, and you can always switch to a short intensive block once you are close to test standard.
Your instructor picks you up in Carcroft and you drive for a while on roads that match your level. A complete beginner may stay on the estate streets near Chestnut Avenue. Someone with experience might head down Station Road and out onto the A638, so we can see how you handle higher speeds and bigger roundabouts.
From that drive we work out roughly how many hours you need, set the course length and give you a price. Nothing is fixed until you have seen and agreed it. General lesson prices are on our prices page if you want a feel for costs beforehand.
No two days are the same, but a day for a learner part way through a course might run like this:
Breaks really matter. Hours of concentration are tiring, and a tired learner makes mistakes, so your instructor builds in time to stop and reset.
You must pass the theory test before the practical test can go ahead, so book it as early as you can. It has 50 multiple-choice questions with a pass mark of 43, then 14 hazard perception clips where you need 44 out of 75. You can book your theory test on GOV.UK. The Doncaster theory test centre is at Fraser House on Netherhall Road.
The practical test is booked as part of your course, timed so your lessons finish with you ready for it. On test day your instructor collects you in Carcroft and you drive over to Shaw Wood Business Park together, so you arrive warmed up.
Our main intensive driving courses page explains how courses run across Doncaster. Learners on the far side of the village boundary can look at intensive driving courses in Skellow. A mock driving test in Carcroft fits neatly near the end of a course, and the driving lessons in Carcroft page lists local pick-up points.

That depends on the assessment drive. A complete beginner needs far more hours than someone who has driven before, so we only set the length once we have seen you drive. The course is then spread over consecutive days or a few weeks, depending on your availability and the test date.
Yes. Automatic intensive courses are popular because there is no clutch to master, which can shorten the course. Bear in mind that passing in an automatic gives you an automatic-only licence. Tell us at the assessment drive which gearbox you want so we can plan around it.
Your instructor goes through the examiner's feedback with you and explains which faults cost you the pass. You can then book more lessons to work on them before a retest. Many learners find a mock test useful at that point, because it shows whether the problem has gone.
No, you can have the assessment drive first. You must pass the theory test before the practical test date, though, so if you have not booked it yet, do that straight away. A theory pass stays valid for two years.
