A mock test is a dress rehearsal for the real thing. We pick you up in Bessacarr, run the drive as an examiner would and mark it on the DVSA sheet, then go through every fault with you in plain English once the car is parked.
Set aside roughly two hours for the whole thing, debrief included. For that time your instructor stops teaching. Directions are given clearly and once, there are no hints, and they only step in if safety requires it. You find out how you drive when nobody is guiding you, which is exactly what the real test asks.
The real practical test lasts about 40 minutes, and the mock copies its shape.
The Doncaster test centre sits on Shaw Wood Way, across from Sandall Park. Test routes are not published by DVSA, and we would not pretend to know them. What a mock can do is put you through the same kinds of driving you will face once the examiner is in the passenger seat.
From Bessacarr that usually means heading north on Bawtry Road, taking the Racecourse Roundabout and following Leger Way past the racecourse to the Sandall Park roundabout and Thorne Road. That stretch gives you busy single carriageway driving, residential streets lined with parked cars and junctions that reward careful observation. The A630 and a few estate roads may feature on the way back, so the independent section fairly tests your planning.
Your instructor will not tell you the route in advance. One minute you might follow the sat nav, the next the signs for Doncaster city centre.
Faults are recorded on the official DVSA marking sheet throughout the drive. A real test is passed with no more than 15 driving faults, as long as none of them is serious or dangerous, and the mock is judged by that same rule.
Once you are parked, you receive a written debrief to take home. Each fault is listed with the reason it was marked and a practical way to fix it. One serious fault at a junction usually tells you more than a scatter of minor ones, and your instructor will help you spot any pattern.
The most popular time is the few weeks before a real test date. A mock also makes sense if you have failed before and want to know what has changed, if test nerves are your main worry, or if you learned elsewhere and want an outside view of your readiness. Intensive course pupils often have one near the end.
The general format is explained on our mock driving test page, and the day itself is covered in what to expect on a Doncaster driving test. Yes. Learners taught by another school or by family can book a mock with us. We collect you in Bessacarr, run the rehearsal in one of our dual controlled cars and hand you an honest written debrief afterwards, so you know exactly where you stand.
There is no official route to copy, since DVSA keeps them unpublished and examiners vary the roads. Instead we cover the sort of driving found north of the racecourse and around Thorne Road, so you get a realistic feel without memorising anything.
Yes, if you ask. Your instructor can ride along in the back seat on test day. Some learners find that reassuring, and it means your instructor sees exactly what happened if more lessons are needed. Decide together before the day.
That is useful information rather than bad news. The debrief shows what needs work while there is still time before the real test. Your instructor may suggest a few focused lessons, or a second mock closer to the date, so you can see your progress.
