An intensive course packs your learning into a short spell of long days behind the wheel. From a Bessacarr pick-up you are minutes from quiet estate roads and from a dual carriageway, with some of Doncaster's busiest roundabouts just beyond, so very little of each session is wasted getting anywhere.
Day one is a free assessment drive. Your instructor collects you in Bessacarr and watches how you handle a mix of roads, perhaps Bessacarr Lane, a stretch of Bawtry Road and a roundabout or two. Complete beginners are welcome too, and the drive simply starts more gently.
After the assessment we tell you how many hours we think you need, and the course is priced from that. Guessing the length before anyone has seen you drive helps nobody, which is why we do it this way. Booking your practical test is included in the course, and that booking can only go ahead once you hold a theory pass. If you have not sat it yet, our guide to passing the theory test first time is the place to start.
No two days are the same, because the plan follows what you need to work on. As a rough idea, a full day for a learner who already has the basics could look like this.
The format works for anyone able to give up most of each day for a concentrated spell. In Bessacarr that often means students home for the summer before university, and shift workers whose rota gives them a run of days off together. It also suits anyone with a job starting soon that needs a licence, or someone who took lessons a while ago and wants to finish the job quickly.
If your free time comes in odd hours, or long stretches of concentration wear you out, weekly lessons will get you there just as surely. Our manual driving lessons in Bessacarr page covers the regular route to a licence.
Several hours of driving a day is hard work. Learners are often surprised how tired they feel on the second or third day, and that is normal. Your instructor will watch for signs of fatigue and change the plan, perhaps swapping a busy roundabout session for manoeuvre practice in a quiet close.
A mock test near the end of the course is a sensible way to check you are ready, and you can read about how that works on our mock driving tests in Bessacarr page.
For the full details, the main intensive driving courses page explains how bookings work. You can also return to the driving lessons in Bessacarr page or look at intensive driving courses in Rossington if you live a little further south down the A638.

That is decided only once we have seen you drive on the free assessment. Someone with plenty of earlier lessons might need a few days, while a complete beginner needs much longer. Your test date is then booked to suit the course.
Yes, in practice. Your practical test gets booked during the course, and that booking needs a theory pass behind it. If you have not passed it yet, book it on GOV.UK and revise first, then contact us about the assessment drive.
Yes. Intensive courses are available in manual and automatic cars. Automatic learners often need fewer hours overall, which can make a short course more realistic. Tell us which you prefer when you book the assessment drive.
Your instructor will be honest with you throughout. If the assessment was optimistic or you have a difficult week, we will talk through the options, which may include adding hours. The aim is to send you to test when you can pass, rather than simply when the course ends.
