Think of a mock test as a dress rehearsal that tells you honestly how close you are to a pass. We pick you up in Barnby Dun, run the drive as an examiner would, score it on the DVSA sheet, then go through every fault with you, so you know what to fix in the weeks before your test.
Allow about two hours. Roughly 40 minutes is the drive itself, matching the length of the real practical test, and the rest is the debrief and some focused practice on anything that went wrong. Your instructor plays the examiner, gives directions in the same plain way and stays quiet otherwise.
Every fault goes on the same marking sheet that DVSA examiners use. Afterwards you get a written debrief to keep, which notes each fault along with the spot where it happened. Our main mock driving test page has more background.
We do not claim to know the real test routes, because DVSA does not publish them. The aim is to put you on the same kind of roads and junctions so nothing feels unfamiliar on the day.
To pass the real thing you can pick up no more than 15 driving faults, and a single serious or dangerous fault means a fail. Examiners grade mistakes by how much risk they carry. Minor slips go down as driving faults. Anything that could have caused danger becomes a serious fault, while a dangerous fault means real danger arose to a person or to property.
On a mock test we mark exactly the same way. Learners are often surprised by which faults add up. A late mirror check before slowing for the Barnby Dun Road bridge counts. So does hesitating too long at a roundabout near Clay Lane. The debrief shows you where the pattern lies.
After the drive we park up and go through the sheet together. Your instructor talks through each fault and its cause, then describes what a pass-standard drive would have looked like at that point. You then spend some of the remaining time practising the weakest areas straight away, while the feedback is fresh.
Nick is especially keen on helping learners understand why a hazard developed, which ties in well with the debrief. Take your written notes home and use them to plan your last lessons before the test.
Pupils living just south of here can book mock driving tests in Kirk Sandall, and those further east choose mock driving tests in Stainforth. Our guide to the Doncaster driving test covers the day itself, or you can return to the Barnby Dun driving lessons page.

Very close in format. The drive mirrors the real one and uses the DVSA marking sheet, but your instructor runs it instead of an examiner and nothing goes on your record. Its value lies in an honest score and a clear list of what to work on.
Yes. If you have a test coming up and want an independent check, we can collect you from home in Barnby Dun and run a full mock. You will drive one of our dual controlled cars, so it helps to have a lesson first if you are not used to it.
Nobody outside DVSA does, because the routes are not published and can change. Instead we drive the same type of roads found near the test centre, such as the junctions and roundabouts around Long Sandall, so the style of driving matches even if the exact streets differ.
They can, as long as you request it. Instructors are allowed to sit in the back during the practical test. Some learners find that settling, and it gives your instructor a first-hand view of the drive if a retake is needed.
