An intensive course packs your learning into days or weeks instead of months. For Balby learners it begins with a free assessment drive from your door, after which we set the length of the course and book your practical test as part of it.
Every course starts with a free assessment drive. Your instructor picks you up in Balby and sees how you handle a mix of roads, perhaps the side streets off Springwell Lane first and then a stretch of Warmsworth Road. Someone who has never driven needs a very different course from someone who has had a few months of lessons already, so nothing is fixed until after this drive.
After the assessment we recommend a number of hours and give you a price for the whole course. The practical test is booked as part of it, which means you must already have passed your theory test. If you have not, book it at gov.uk/book-theory-test and sit it at Fraser House on Netherhall Road before the course begins.
Breaks matter. Several hours behind the wheel in one day is tiring, and your instructor will build in time to stop, talk through what happened and reset before the next block.
It works best for people who can commit several hours a day. If you can only manage an hour or two a week, regular manual lessons in Balby or automatic lessons in Balby will probably suit you better.
Towards the end of the course the drives shift east across the city, so you spend time on roads like the ones you will meet around the test centre on Shaw Wood Business Park. Many intensive pupils also take a mock driving test in Balby shortly before the real thing, marked the same way an examiner would mark it.
If the assessment shows you need more time than a short course allows, we will tell you honestly and suggest a longer plan, perhaps a few weekly lessons first and the intensive block after that.
The pace is quick, so revision between lessons helps. Read through the show me tell me questions in the evening and you will have more time in the car for driving. Our main intensive driving courses page has more on how courses run. If you live just west of here, see intensive driving courses in Warmsworth, and for everything else about learning locally go back to driving lessons in Balby.
We'll ring you back within the day. If it's urgent, call 07402 034084.
Leave your name and number and we'll ring you back within the day to talk through lessons in Balby and the times that suit you.
There is no fixed length. We set it after your free assessment drive, based on how you drive now and what you still need to learn. A complete beginner needs far more hours than someone close to test standard, so each course is planned for the person taking it.
You need a theory pass before we can book the practical test that comes with the course. You can have the assessment drive without it, but the course itself works best once the theory is out of the way. Your pass stays valid for two years.
Often, yes. Tell us your shift pattern when you call and we will plan the lessons for your days off or the hours either side of your shifts. Pick-up from work on Carr Hill or Balby Carr Bank is possible if there is a safe place to stop.
The price depends on the number of hours, so we only quote it after the assessment drive. You can see our standard lesson rates on the prices page to get a feel for costs, and the quote you receive covers the full course.
